MULE Returns App Reviews

3.5 stars... Higher in the future I think

Ive read a number of the mixed reviews on this game, and since Ive waited so long for it, I thought it worth putting my 2 cents in. First the price... I think that considering the multi-player is not yet functional, its priced too high. I do like to support authors and the effort in their work, but this would be more justly priced at 1.99. Gameplay - If you remember the original, you will like this. I find that the developers did a good job of keeping with the original, but updating it for modern times. Its also been well adapted for touch screen, though it does take some practice to get it right. The biggest problem I see with the game is the lack of multi-player... I know it says coming soon, but it really cant come soon enough. Theres only so much re-playability to this game against the AI. While the AI is decent, the strategy of the AI players quickly become predictable, limiting the excitement of the game. I will up my rating to 4+ when the multi-player becomes available. Overall, this is a good rendition of one of what I believe to be one of the classic games of all time. Us old-folks that remember the original for what it was should enjoy it. But remember, a long time has passed since you probably played the game... It may not be as much fun as the splinter of your memory.

Best game on my phone

Love it! Careful though, its addictive.

Boring, tedious

Why remake a bad game? Perhaps entertaining for children or old folks.

At last, the original.

I have played many M.U.L.E. clones over the years but none of them brought back the memories of my childhood on the planet Irata. Until now. This is the original game exactly, just with modern graphics and sound. What a joy to have this back. Cant wait for multiplayer - this is the only game I remember that let you use all four joystick ports on the Atari 800.

Genius. Licensed Dan Bunten Modernization

Consensus best strategy computer game of all time. Licensed official Ozark (Dan Buntens company). Dan was the creator of MULE. Proper music, characters, gameplay. Finally, after decades of almost-there-clones, the proper MULE has come back to life. I just hope there is not a fire at the App Store to destroy all inventory of this classic.

Awesome game!

I absolutely love this game! I never had the chance to play the original so I cant make any comparisons but this game is so fun and addicting with so much re-playability. The concept is amazing as well! If anything could make this game better it would be multiplayer and harder AI but I love it so far.

True to the original

This is a great "reboot" of a franchise! I remember playing this on my C64 many many years ago. I have been waiting a long time for this game to resurface! Thank you and I cannot wait for online multiplayer M.U.L.E.

Good game

Better graphics than the original and a great job with the layout! Navigating with your character is clunky and awkward in the supply depot. I find myself getting stuck on the door edges which can be annoying. Mules shouldnt cost $2200 in the third round??? Mostly a really good job and improvement over the good old original. Always a fun one to pick up and play.

Favourite Game!

I love it!! Im addicted to playing it. I encourage everyone I know to download it!

Horrible

Too many bugs can barely assign a mule to a plot. Not worth paying for. Auction froze until I sold resources at a super cheap price to computer players, cheating buggy broken game! I want a refund!

Great

Faithful to the old game I played on my C=64. Fun gameplay.

Needs improvement!

-The controls are poor, it could benefit from an extra button in the corner of the screen to more accurately place and remove mules. I find myself pounding at the screen to place my mule before I run out of time. -The volume setting does not mute the game and does not save between games or affect the menu screen. If I want to sneak in a quick game here and there I dont want to have to fumble around with the mute control on my phone as music starts screaming out while Im somewhere quiet. -The price of goods does not properly reflect the store supply and the total supply and demand. If I have the only energy source and everyone has to buy energy from me why would the store expect me to sell energy to it at its lowest price of $10? The base price should reflect the total market. -The AI has no sense of a product value. They will always sell all of there surplus regardless of what price the store is set to. If I need food and they are selling food I just need to wait on the bottom and, although they take their time, they will always sell me food at the price the store is buying it at instead of saying somewhere near the top to force me to buy food at their price. Same goes for the reverse. If I have food and the store does not they will drive the price up until they cannot afford it or the time runs out instead of trying to get me to lower my price to something more reasonable then $300+ a unit. The game is good but I remember the AI for the original being a little more ruthless.

No Multiplayer!

The A.I.s are too dumb, even in tournament mode too easy, not a challenge at all! Please add multiplayer or I request my money back...

No multiplayer??

This game is pointless without the pleasure to bear the buddies you used to play it with on your C-64. Please add multiplayer and multi-iPad or Ill request a refund too! Also, a nice feature would be to be able to display the game on a TV using Apple TV.

Still needs updates

Needs multiplayer mode!!!! Also a nostalgic mode, featuring old-times 8bit display, would be a great add on. Otherwise game is good and deserves good grades.

very poor implementation

shop phase simultaneous instead of sequential, pirates take smithore as well as cristite, etc. in general, the authors did not know well the original game, and by their small "improvements" broke the balance of the original. unplayable, if you know the atari version.

Not quite ready yet

Im not going to talk about the principles of the game. Readers can get that elsewhere and from writes of the original 1980s 8bit version. The game mechanics of the original are all there. This modern remake is a great reincarnation that has the original gameplay. Id give it 5 stars but for some serious issues that can be fixed and I suspect, will be fixed by the developers. 1. Where is the game settings screen? Nothing in system settings and no settings view in the game I can find. It needs settings to: a. Allow users to control the audio volume independent of the system audio levels. b. allow users to disable the help info once they know how to play. Having to click on those help bubbles, 4 on some views. Is annoying in the first round when I know how it works. 2. Keep a "get ready" dialog the user must acknowledge before picking the next plot, but allow it to be transparent. Players need to be able to glance at the map and figure out which plot they want, and it may be the first plot in the map to come available. 3. The disasters dont appear properly random in where they occurred. In several games I saw pests repeatedly hot the exact same square on the board. In one game my one farm was hit with two pest disasters and the meteor strike. Very bad randomization. 4. It would be helpful to know which of how many rounds you are starting. I know the main summary board that indicates the round on it is that mechanism but it becomes unclear as the fa,e progresses, that this is the summary at the start of the round and not the summary at the end of the round. 5. Interactions of resources on game play. Its indicated in the hint that food determines how much time you have to shop, outfit and deploy. Its not clear what energy levels influence. 6. Multiple-player. This is coming and the game needs that to be complete. 7. Moving/placing. It feels a bit kludgy how things are placed. Too many times Ive left the outfitting shop without my mule being greater up for deployment. I understand the developers are working this issue now. Also placing the mule in the plot doesnt happen as simply,as it did in joystick land 30 years ago. Maybe a double tap anywhere on the screen works as a click for the mule in whatever area the mule currently sits in?

Lots of fun like it always has been

As soon as I saw this I bought it. M.U.L.E was my favorite game on my Atari 400 and this has been the one game that was hard to find anywhere else. My family is learning to love this game too, I cant wait for the multiplayer update! Gameplay is like the original, yes there are a few quirks on the iPad, but overall it is a great update. This game has the fun aspects of lemonade stand, civilization and simcity in one place.

Great port of a classic

2 SUGGESTIONS: First, the timer should stop when selling is taking place. All too often I cannot sell my ore because the timer runs out while the second AI player is selling to the store. Second, the starting price for food and energy stay at minimums when the player has a monopoly on it, but not when an AI player does. It should be going up when the store is dry all 3 AI players are desperate for these resources. All in all an excellent port of this classic game!

Auction change with update

The update changed it so the human player is no longer guaranteed to hit the auction first (as when all 4 players are trying to buy X). Im not fond of that alteration. Otherwise, Ive really enjoyed having one of my old faves from back in the day to play again.
